NSE Project Specialist

A Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE) Project Specialist is a 1099 Contractor that has education and experience that enable him / her to perform functions that support project management of business requirements content, instructional design, and information technology efforts for the NSE.

The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following functions as requested:

  • Develop an understanding of NSE-related content development cycles
  • Collaborate with internal and external team members to create and maintain schedules for multiple projects
  • Update internal project schedules
  • Maintain the work breakdown structure, create new sections as needed, and ensure related projects and tasks are integrated 
  • Prepare project-related materials to support various meetings
  • Attend meetings to gather project status information and ask and answer questions
  • Work with internal team members to post weekly status on milestones and communicate to external stakeholders
  • Interface with the internal project manager to ensure that project schedules align with organizational objectives
  • Develop project and financial reports to assist with forecasting, management of staff and contractor resources, and budget planning
  • Communicate with the Federal customer and external stakeholders about project schedules, as needed
  • Create and maintain internal procedures for the role

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Past experience working as an employee or contractor on a defense-related program within the Department of Energy (DOE), National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), Department of Defense (DoD), or one of its contractors
  • Bachelor’s degree in a business, finance, scientific, or engineering discipline
  • 5 years’ relevant experience in project scheduling, project controls, or project management
  • Intermediate written and oral communication proficiency
  • Working knowledge of team collaboration technology (SharePoint, Skype, Teams, Outlook, OneNote, other online or cloud-based systems)
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with Microsoft Project Professional (or other project management software) and Excel
  • Highly professional, strong business acumen, and able to quickly build rapport with personnel at all levels

Desired Experience:

  • Experience working remotely and supporting distributed team members, customers, and stakeholders
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification, Professional Scrum™ Certification, or equivalent
  • Experience in any of the following: Earned Value Management (EVM); systems engineering; planning, programming, budgeting, and execution (PPBE)

Additional Information:

  • Work Classification: 1099 Contractor
  • Schedule: Approximately 15 to 25 hours per week (fluctuating based on your experience and program needs)
  • Work Location: Preference is given to those based in the Albuquerque, NM area or planning to relocate here (relocation assistance is not offered). During the coronavirus pandemic, all meetings will be virtual and the majority occur on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The ability to be onsite during some meetings is highly desirable.

  • Clearance: An active DOE Q clearance, transferable DoD clearance, or the ability to obtain one is required
  • Training: Some on-the-job training provided on the program, processes, and technology
  • Typical Income Range: $80,000 to $90,000/year
